REALLY?

I watched a movie I've been wanting to see for some time. It is about ERNIE DAVIS, an incredible young man who lived a lot of life in the short life he had.

He played college football for Syracuse University. He was the first African-American to be awarded the Heisman Trophy (1961).  While he went on to the goal of professional football with the Cleveland Browns, he was diagnosed with leukemia around the same time. He never played professional football and he died at the young age of 23.

It was a difficult movie for me to watch.
I don't have much patience or tolerance anytime another person is treated as less-than.

I don't care if you are black, white, green, blue or purple.
I don't care if you are female or male, young or in the final stages of life.
We are all created equal in the image of God and should be treated with the same respect and love.

I never cease to be surprised when we treat someone as if he or she is some abomination because we decide he or she doesn't look enough like us or act enough like us. I mean -- really? REALLY?
How dare we be so arrogant to think we have the right to decide such a thing.

I know there are those who feel otherwise. This makes me incredibly sad. There are many things we can disagree over and I respect that. I cannot respect disagreeing over this. I see no good in grouping human-kind in well, groups. We are one and we should treat each other as such.

Ernie Davis' story is another story of an African-American being treated cruelly due to the color of his skin. He rose above and continued to hold his head high. I applaud him for that and honor his accomplishments in his 23 short years.

If you haven't seen this movie about Ernie Davis I encourage you to watch it. For me, it was incredibly inspiring.

Enjoying the Journey,
Debra

And lean not on your own understanding.

In all your ways acknowledge Him
And He will make your path straight.
