He was one of my volunteers with the youth ministry at one church I served. He and I continue to share the same passion for missions and teaching kids the importance of reaching out and helping others in need.
One year we were in Florida with the youth for a week of mission work. After a day of rewarding work it was one of our "free" nights out. We chose to head in to Orlando where lots of fun awaited. Woody insisted he knew how to get us where we wanted to go. Leave the maps -- Woody was in charge!
After circling the Orlando International Airport for the fourth time I turned to Woody and asked if repeatedly circling the airport would open a secret door for us ...
The walkie-talkie's were really buzzing as we all laughed throughout our caravan and enjoyed harassing Woody. Somewhere along the way, someone starting calling out "Wrong Way Woody!". One of the kids in our van said, "Don't feel bad Woody. At least we're all lost together."
At least we're all lost together ... there was something comforting in that.
It is dark and scary but I am not afraid. We're all lost together.
It seems things are crazy and I don't know where to turn or who to trust but it's OK. We're all lost together.
I miss her so much -- our family has not been the same since her death but it's OK. We're all lost together.
It was great getting to see the airport. It's about all we saw that night.
Needless to say, he endured much teasing and that nickname stuck for years!
Although I chuckle every time I remember that particular youth trip it serves as a great reminder for me to not freak out in those times I get lost myself. Eventually I will get back on track.
We've all gotten lost at some point in our life's journey. Whether it is being literally lost or figuratively so, we can get back on track when we take the first BIG step and that is admitting it. I'M LOST. I'm lost!!!
By the grace of God, rejoice, for in Him are we found.
Enjoying the journey,
Debra
